Am I the only one who is utterly depressed by the clamour to regulate the Internet and pretty much every interaction and membership of every platform and service,, not only by governments but also by individual users?

Society must be careful of allowing their freedoms to be taken away in the name of good causes.

Whenever I see someone screaming for someone or some group to be banned, I think of the famous "When they came for ... I said nothing..." speech. 😞

@dick_turpin having spent far more time than I'd have liked too, looking at how it impacts some of my Apps.

It also feels so poorly drafted and thought through, that it will be practically unworkable.

There definitely should be better protections on line, but at this approach also seems lacking in actually achieving that.

@intrbiz I suspect the attitude is: "Let's get it done so we can announce it and work out the details later."

I was happier in the good old days when the Web was the Wild West. Not because I enjoy lousy behaviour but because legislation will kill what was given to us to use for free (As in Freedom) and to educate ourselves regardless of whether the topic was morally right or wrong.

Caveat
I have no problem with removing or blocking illegal content.
