A reminder that 10 years ago the U.K. NHS was ranked the best healthcare system in the world. We don’t need a new system. We need a new government that ends the catastrophic staff haemorrhage and remedies the chronic defunding the NHS has endured over the last decade. Tories have been meeting with private healthcare providers over that time and scores of them have shares in private healthcare companies- to them it’s all about making money out of our misery. #ukpolitics #nhs

Was chatting to Jeff Ready (CEO of Scale Computing) earlier in the week, and he noted that a lot of the new devs have only ever worked on cloud-based infrastructure. They've never configured low-level boring stuff like a hypervisor or VLANs or a RAID setup or any one of a dozen other artisan skills I have.

It's like being a blacksmith but for tech.

@fuzzychef AFAIK you could open an account with Starling Bank just via the app: help.starlingbank.com/personal

I assume the same with be true with some of the other neo banks.

@bagder @HughIngram I bet loads of their corp customers run into issues with the web inspection software which MITMs TLS in the name of security. So people develop work arounds...

A must-read article about inefficiency of modern #software

"I’ve been programming for 15 years now. Recently, our industry’s lack of care for efficiency, simplicity, and excellence started really getting to me, to the point of me getting depressed by my own career and IT in general."

@bigcalm no idea on differences. I bet under the hood they are the same or similar Realtek chips.

John A has a couple of the Yuanley ones, which I think at least work.

@bigcalm eg: amazon.co.uk/YuanLey-Port-PoE-

amazon.co.uk/VIMIN-Port-2-5Gba

I think John got the YuanLey cheaper on AliExpress.

Yeh, I need to have a play with bcachefs, I played with bcache in the past, so excited to see it finally got merged.

@bigcalm there are some interesting cheap 10G / 2.5G 4 or 8 port switches about now.

Also bcachefs got merged too.

@bigcalm be careful with 4xM.2 adapters the passive ones require the UEFI and cpu support bifurcation. You can get some adapters with a pcie bridge but usually pricey.

If you need a 10G SFP+ card, I have a bunch spare.
