@Edent also in general window functions are great for aggregating these kind of stats.

@Edent be careful with 'UPDATE count = count + 1" patterns. They're unlikely to accurately count as you expect due to concurrency issues. Especially in MVCC systems, it will depend alot on transaction isolation levels.

For this kind of thing, just logging the visits as records and aggregating on analysis / periodically is often the better approach. Removes a lot of the concurrent write headache and give you more flexibility.

Bahah. Somebody has also FOI'd Ofcom too asking them for their own assessment into how safe it was to tweet links to their own website, which then (with hyperlinks) subsequently links to the 34 porn sites they are investigating. Which do not have age verification.

The PostgreSQL User Group NL team is organizing a PGDay Lowlands Warmup Meetup on Thursday, September 11.

Whether you are attending PGDay Lowlands or not (but really you should), this meetup is open to the entire community and is a great opportunity to meet some of the speakers and other attendees.

Join for talks by Chris Ellis, showcasing some Postgres features that make developers’ lives easier, and Stefan Fercot from Data Egret, who will dive into the inner workings of PgBouncer: meetup.com/postgresql-user-gro

@Lightfighter @GossiTheDog haha, yup, me too. Too much expectancy that software will magically solve all your problems.

@raiderrobert switch is a strong term. I have a couple of preferred languages. I often find myself using more than one on many projects. And have worked on projects where the main language is not my preference. I've often been criticised as 'writing X as if it was Y', often something I take as a positive. I tend to think that most people ascribe to an ecosystem and not a language.

@tubetime damn, that is cool. Mighty impressive work, love it. Kudos!

"i use linux as my operating system," i state proudly to the unkempt, bearded man. he swivels around in his desk chair with a devilish gleam in his eyes, ready to mansplain with extreme precision.
"actually," he says with a grin, "linux is just the kernel. you use GNU+linux."
i don't miss a beat and reply with a smirk, "i use alpine, a distro that doesn't include the GNU coreutils, or any other GNU code. it's linux, but it's not GNU+linux."

the smile quickly drops from the man's face. his body begins convulsing and he foams at the mouth as he drop to the floor with a sickly thud. as he writhes around he screams "I-IT WAS COMPILED WITH GCC! THAT MEANS IT'S STILL GNU!"
coolly, i reply "if windows was compiled with gcc, would that make it GNU?" i interrupt his response with "and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. even if you were correct, you won't be for long."

with a sickly wheeze, the last of the man's life is ejected from his body. he lies on the floor, cold and limp. i've womansplained him to death.

@GossiTheDog I agree with your analysis on the shift happening within our industry. However I think a lot of the cyber security industry has been selling their tech as snake oil for a long time. Often I've felt companies own marketing departments are doing their own tech a disservice by the way it was pitched. The AI hype train seems a continuation of this.
