@sil pretty much all message digest algorithms work on a stream. It's often only silly implementations which require the blob as a whole.
Fundamentally a CRC / MD algorithm has n-bits of state which get mutated by a block of data.
Most message digests will perform a finalisation of the internal state to result in the final hash. But IIRC the result of the CRC is just the internal state.

Q: So you ARE forcing Plasma users to use systemd!!?!?!
A: No. The Plasma Login Manager is one of probably half a dozen Login Managers (or more) that can boot Plasma. We made PLM because it will give distro creators a cool piece of kit that can (not "must", not "should": *can*) be tacked onto a system to boot into Plasma.

@czajkowski the biggest problem MySQL has, is the split with MariaDB and the fact both forks went in different directions.
Given that most distros ship MariaDB by default, I suspect many people are using that rather than MySQL.
Certainly most people I've run into who say they are using MySQL are actually using MariaDB. People colloquially seeing the two things as the same, holds both forks back.

UK PEOPLE: this is REALLY IMPORTANT. If the government bans under-16s from using VPNs, then logically they must intend to REQUIRE AGE VERIFICATION FOR ALL VPN USE. Which will affect adults too!

Last minute #FOSDEM tips for newbies:
- wear layers
- use a scarf and gloves
- assume the onsite ATM is empty when you need it**
- be your usual open and friendly self
- be excellent to each other
Looking forward to seeing everyone again. It is home, away from home, with like minded and brilliant people.

2026-01-27 update: **the onsite ATM went the way of the dinosaurs (e.g. it is gone)
@neil for the main FOSDEM tshirt and many booths are card only.
I would say card is used a lot more now than it was and cash not universal.
It's probably still worth carrying some cash on you. There are ATMs near the restaurant, but can get busy.
@Edent BCS, but might need to do more than just pay.
